PoliciesHere's where we get down to the nitty-gritty of our business policies and procedures. I know it's a lot of information to absorb, but please read carefully before deciding to purchase any of our products and/or birds.
Here at KC's Aviary, the health, care, and safety of our birds is first priority- no matter what. While we strive to provide excellent customer service, we reserve the right to refuse service and sales to parties we feel will not provide the best home for our birds. This policy is very important to us as we want to ensure our birds are properly cared for their entire lives. Under certain circumstances, we may ask the purchaser to sign a "First Right of Refusal" contract, where the bird(s) will be returned to KC's Aviary if the purchaser is no longer willing and/or able to care for the bird(s). For the purchase of babies, we require a 50% non-refundable, but fully-transferable deposit. The balance on the bird(s) is due within thirty (30) days, or prior to weaning- whichever comes last. For the purchase of adult and breeder birds, we require a 50% non-refundable, but fully-transferable deposit. The balance on the bird(s) is due within sixty (60) days. All payments must be fully received and cleared before birds go to their new home. Veterinarian health certificates are available for an additional $40.00. DNA Sexing is available for $11.00. All of our breeding stock is disease tested randomly throughout the year. We randomly select birds from our stock to test quarterly, with all birds receiving testing once a year. All incoming breeder birds are quarantined for at least 60 days and disease tested immediately upon arrival to the aviary. All birds entering our flock must receive a clean bill of health before we allow them to reproduce. The protection of our flock is of the utmost importance to us. We focus on health and quality of life, not quantity of babies bred. We will not overbreed our birds just because the demand is high for a particular species. Please be aware of this when requesting a certain species. It may take as long as a year or more for us to ensure a pair is ready for reproduction. With this being said, we do not take deposits on birds that may be available in the future. We only take deposits on birds we have on hand, as we cannot guarantee that a pair will reproduce even in the best conditions we provide. Please understand that we do this for the protection of the customer, as well as ourselves. Many other breeders and stores will take a deposit on a bird that they are "ordering" for you. They have your money and all you have is a vague promise that a bird may someday be in their store. This is a common scam and we at KC's Aviary do not tolerate it in the avian community. We encourage you to do your research and ask for references on any breeder or store from which you are thinking of purchasing a bird. Trust your gut feelings! If the birds don't appear healthy and happy, or if you even have one doubt about the person's intentions or credibility- WALK AWAY! This is the only way to weed out the scammers in our community. We do ship birds, weather and airlines permitting. Our preferred airlines are Continental and Delta Airlines (out of Seattle, WA). Shipping costs vary and are most often around $100.00. A crate fee of $20.00 may apply to certain purchases of birds. We guarantee the health of our weaned/adult birds upon arrival and offer a ten (10) calendar day blanket health warranty. Within those ten (10) days, the purchaser must have the bird(s) checked and examined by a board certified AVIAN veterinarian of their choice. If the vet finds the bird(s) to have any defects, we will replace the bird(s) promptly with one of equal value, or provide a full refund at our descretion, once the purchaser has returned the original bird(s). Failure to receive a vet check and provide proper documentation nullifies this guarantee. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a health guarantee on the sale of unweaned babies to experienced handfeeders. Although we guarantee that babies are healthy and well-fed when they are with us, we cannot control the conditions and exposures once the babies leave our care. We make every effort to screen and check the handfeeding experience of potential buyers so that we are assured that our babies will be properly fed and weaned. Please do not take offense if we refuse to sell an unweaned baby to someone because we cannot verify their handfeeding experience. We do this to protect ourselves, our babies, and our buyers from the heartbreak of a baby death. It may seem like the wait for a baby to wean is too long, but it's worth it to bring home a strong, healthy baby! Orders of food, supplies, toys, etc. will be packaged and shipped promptly, usually within one business day. We prefer to ship via USPS standard, but can also ship Priority, UPS, and FedEx at additional charges. Orders over $200.00 get FREE SHIPPING!
We at KC's Aviary fully support responsibly- and ethically-run avian rescues. However, for the health and safety of our own birds, we do not take in rescue birds. We will help you rehome a bird if needed, but because of the threat of disease transmission, we will not accept a surrendered bird into our facility. If you are looking to rehome your bird, we would be happy to assist you in finding a new owner while the bird remains in your care. We will also be happy to refer you to professional rescue organizations.
